How the dashboard calculates
Every number is calculated in your browser from data/oil_panel.csv, the same
162,141-row file behind the report. To check a report figure, set the years to 2025–2025,
the country to United States, the product to Crude oil and the variable to Production: the average is 13,573 kb/d,
as in the report.
- Average rate: for each month, add up the variable over every row that matches the filters (and the breakdown group), then average those monthly sums over the months that have data. Units are kb/d, or thousand barrels for stocks.
- Total volume: each monthly value × the days in that month ÷ 1,000, added up, in million barrels. Not shown for stocks, which are a level.
- Median: the median of all single country-month-product values in the group.
- Share: a group's average rate ÷ the sum of all groups' average rates.
- Countries reporting: distinct countries with at least one value.
- Change: average rate in the last selected year ÷ average rate in the first − 1.
- Totals only include countries that reported. Russia, Iraq, Iran, the UAE, Brazil and others stop reporting partway through, so a drop in a total can mean missing reports, not less oil. The "Countries reporting" number shows this. The product-group filter takes one group at a time because refined products are made from crude.
